We haven’t really touched on Shun yet over here at Kitchen Knife, and I think it’s high time we did! I don’t want to go over all of Shun’s stuff in this post, but I did want to highlight one of my favorite Shun knives:
This is the Shun Classic 8-inch Chef’s Knife. Before we get into the technical stuff, I really, really like the way Shun knives look. They’re beautifully made and expertly crafted. I, for one, haven’t seen many kitchen knives that are as stunning as the ones Shun makes.
The indentations (AKA graton edge) you see in this knife look nice, but they also create small air pockets that reduce friction while cutting. This means it takes less effort for you to cut when you’re cooking. The blade is made of VG-Max steel with 34 layers per side of stainless Damascus steel that has been bead blasted. Each side of the blade has also been sharpened to a 16-degree angle.
The overall length on this knife is 13.50 inches, the blade is 8 inches long, and the handle is 5.50 inches and is made of PakkaWood. The handle is moisture-resistant because the wood has been resin-impregnated. This knife is also made in Japan, so you know it has excellent quality.
If you’re in the need of a good kitchen knife (and we all are, since we all eat), do yourself a favor and get this Shun Classic 8-Inch Chef’s Knife. It will give you excellent, easy cutting action that will make cooking less difficult and more enjoyable.
